About Indigenous education

Education empowers communities. Specialise in Indigenous education as part of your Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree and you’ll learn how to bring innovative and life-changing learning opportunities to your community. Our Indigenous education degrees focus on Indigenous pedagogy so you can bring cultural context into the classroom.

Experience in the classroom

Professional experience is a big part of your education degree. Over the course of your study you’ll spend time in classrooms putting all your theoretical knowledge into practice. This hands-on approach will be undertaken in block-placements so you’ll have time to build your skills and feel confident in a classroom setting.

Drop in to Yalbalinga

The Yalbalinga team are on hand to provide you with educational and administrative support throughout your degree – wherever you’re based. And when you’re on the Strathfield campus their door is always open for you to drop into their culturally welcoming and friendly meeting place for a chat.

Help when you need it

You’ll be supported in your study by our specialised tutorial assistants. Whether you’re on campus attending an intensive or are home in community, your assigned tutorial assistant will be able to work with you to help you reach your academic goals.

Live in community

Continue to live and work in your community while you study. Our Away from Base program will bring you to campus twice a semester for a week of intensive face-to-face classes. You’ll then be able to return to your community to continue your studies using flexible methods such as self-directed learning, online learning and field experience.
